Did your insurance company ever require you to try other drugs before giving you the more expensive one?
Look – I get it – it actually makes sense because sometimes the cheaper one works just as well. But sometimes it doesn’t. And you need some documentation to prove you’ve already tried everything else. Do you have that? I didn’t.
I tried all the medications for this unusual condition I had and finally found the one that worked. And then changed insurance companies. They said if I could provide any documentation that showed I’d already tried the other therapies, they’d approve the requested medication but – you guessed it – it had been over 5 years and I had no clue what I tried or when I tried it. So I had to start all over again – with all the side effects, no benefits, and the ultimate result of just being exhausted.
So whenever you try a medication that doesn’t work or gives you some kind of reaction, just mark it as discontinued in your KinKeeper app and note why. Then you’ll have the benefit of knowing what you tried, when you tried it, who prescribed it, and why it didn’t work. Take 5 Minutes . . . Future You will thank you!
